Head coaches are responsible for various administrative tasks depending on their school system requirements.
One item that is a constant challenge is Scheduling. If you organize a preseason meeting to prepare for captain's practices, you need to avoid conflicts with back to school nights and other activities. Some team parents have kids in every school, HS, MS, ES, in your system. If you are a coach that is not a teacher or lives in a different town than where you coach, you may find it difficult to get information about the various school activities you need to go around with your scheduling plans. If your AD or other school contact does not have a central point for you to get that scheduling information, then go to the effort of recommending the creation of one.
Google Calendar is not just a simple one person calendar application. It has the built-in ability to give you a view of multiple calendars at a time, including the calendars of other people, if they share them. It is very possible for a school district to create a special gmail account to share activity dates for multiple activity categories to the whole public through Google Calendars. This gives students and parents and coaches the option to view as many or as few calendars as they need. It also gives you as a coach of a non-traditional or non-mainstream sport the opportunity to publicize your competitions next to those of the more popular sports.
