Did you know there is a group who is interested in getting the State flag of NJ changed? The current flag is a repeat of the Great Seal of the State. Which is fine for a Great Seal but fails in nearly every way a flag should succeed. Imagine fencing socks that aren't comfortable, decrease traction, hold sweat, won't stay up, are nearly too short, look like at least three or more other schools' socks, cannot be clearly distinguished in a picture, and are boring and ugly. I think you would want to make a change in that situation. But all of those traits would be fine in some other item, but not in fencing socks.
There is apparently a lot of history and nostalgia attached to the current NJ flag, mostly based on then General George Washington. He is the one who set the State colors as "buff & Jersey blue", you know those old license plates that make a care look really old even if it isn't. Those are the official State colors, which General Washington pulled from the New Jersey military uniform coats. Still, it would seem that perhaps a new emblem might be in order.
