Captains practice as we knew it is a thing of the past. Spring and Fall are private coaches / no HS coaches only. Summer season is the clear option for maintaining and advancing fencers. Therefore I propose a NJ HS Summer Fencing League. For ease of function it would likely be a weapon squad league, not a full team arrangement.
I've been looking into how to start a youth sports league. Choosing software to run the website, league, teams, contests is an important step. There are a few major players, StackSports.com - owned by the Dallas Cowboys, NJSIAA should probably invest in a website by this group. The current one is weak. BlueSombrero.com - fully funded by Dick's Sports Goods, the only big free option, with lots of advertising, Dick's Sports HQ is the official software of Little League Baseball SportsEngine.com - by NBC LeagueAthletics.com / SIPlay - by Time Inc. There are others like TeamSnap, LeagueNetwork, etc.
I think we may need to get some sponsors to cover the websoftware. If so, we can build a Summer Fencing League that expands to all levels, HS squads, middle school teams, elementary squads, etc. Little League with swords.
